Designed to compliment heirloom seeds, this collection of Australian native edible and medical plants is a must have for any kit. We’ve included a selection of 10 species of hardy, frost and drought tolerant species that offer a high level of nutritious and medical value. Proven to grow in Australian conditions and offer real survival benefits!
Included is smoke infused granules for any species that require smoke pre-treatment along with a booklet explaining growing conditions, edible information and medicinal information.
Medicinal species include
- Camel Bush x 20– The bark can be boiled and used as an antiseptic to wash wounds.
- Minharri – Crush the leaves and boil in water. Rub to treat headaches, colds and rheumatism. See substitutions
- Emu Bush x 10– Leaf concoction or poultice to treat sores/wounds. Proven antiseptic with antibacterial properties. See substitutions
Substitutions August 2025
Bush tucker species include
- Salt Bush x 12 – Salty sweet berries eaten straight from the tree. Boil the berries to make salt bush tea.
- Bush Tomato x 6 – Fast growing shrub with vitamin C rich fruit. Can be dried and consumed like raisins.
- Snow berries x 25 – Prolific fruiter of succulent white berries, eat raw or cook to make jams/chutney.
- Golden Purslane x 25 – Rapid growing and easy to forage, leaves make a delicious and nutritious salad substitute.
- Camel Bush x 20 – highly nutritious edible seed that can be ground into a flour for baking and damper.
- Native carrot x 30– Smells and tastes just like carrot, cook the small tubers before eating.
- Native Spinach x 5– The ultimate spinach alternative. Large edible leaves eat raw or cooked.

- Native Leek Substitution – Nitraria Billardierei forms a sprawling shrub with fruit 1-2cm turning red when mature in summer and autumn. The fruit is said to taste like salty grapes and was eaten by the tribal Aborigines. Fruits can also be made into jam or dried or stored. Occurs throughout Australia.
- Sesbania cannabina (yellow pea bush) – Anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties
- Acacia Olei – Coles wattle – Seeds can be ground into flour and baked. Tannins used for antiseptic washes.
- Native parnsip (Trachmene incisa) – Edible nutrious tubers, cook and enjoy just like regualr parnsip!

Care Instructions
Follow these detailed care instructions to keep your Elkhorn Fern thriving:
Mounting
Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees. For best results:
- Mount on wood, cork, or similar materials
- Use sphagnum moss around the roots
- Secure with fishing line or plant-safe wire until established
Watering
Proper watering is crucial:
- Soak the root ball and shield fronds thoroughly when the moss feels dry
- Allow excess water to drain completely
- Reduce watering in winter
- Mist shield fronds occasionally
Light & Positioning
Place your fern where it receives:
- Bright, indirect light
- Protection from direct sun, especially midday
- Good air circulation

We use Australia Post as they have a progressive environmental policy available on their website, tracking on all orders and are carbon neutral. Delivery times vary depending on your location but generally are between 2 – 5 business days.
Native Seed Box is a carbon neutral website and offset all our products. All our packaging and product lines are plastic free and biodegradable. We hope you agree with our eco-friendly and low cost shipping policies.

Refunds & Returns
We want you to be satisfied with the products you purchase. This is why we ask that you check the quantity and quality of your purchased products upon delivery and if any products are faulty or incorrectly supplied that you notify us at Native Seed Box within 7 days of receipt. Failure to do so within 7 days may result in rejection of your claim.
Please note that because our products are 100% natural individual batches may vary slightly in size, colour and texture. This in no way affects their quality or the amount of seed in each seed bomb. Germination can differ with your growing conditions, and some seed can lay dormant for many months.
To claim a refund or exchange, Please contact us at info@nativeseedbox.com.au before returning any products. After returns are received in full, Native Seed Box will reimburse the value of the refund products within 30 days. Consumers will be responsible for delivery charges unless products are faulty.
