Up for grabs is 1 packet of 9 fresh seed of the bizarre and highly collectible Pseudolithos mccoyi. This unique stapeliad is famous for its reptilian, knobby texture and its fantastic ability to naturally offset and form multi-headed, prehistoric-looking clusters.
These seeds were harvested this past summer directly from my own mature mother plant, which you can see in the photos. Because they are fresh, locally produced, and come from a healthy plant acclimated to Australian conditions, you are getting excellent genetics with great viability to start your own collection.
Germination Instructions
Sow on the surface of a sterile, well-draining cactus/succulent mix (mineral-based preferred).
Lightly press seeds onto substrate; do not bury deeply.
Maintain temperature between 20–25 °C.
Keep substrate slightly moist but never saturated.
Provide bright, indirect light during germination.
Ensure airflow to reduce fungal risk.
Germination time varies. Seedlings develop slowly and are sensitive to overwatering.
Care Instructions
Follow these detailed care instructions to keep your Elkhorn Fern thriving:
Mounting
Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees. For best results:
- Mount on wood, cork, or similar materials
- Use sphagnum moss around the roots
- Secure with fishing line or plant-safe wire until established
Watering
Proper watering is crucial:
- Soak the root ball and shield fronds thoroughly when the moss feels dry
- Allow excess water to drain completely
- Reduce watering in winter
- Mist shield fronds occasionally
Light & Positioning
Place your fern where it receives:
- Bright, indirect light
- Protection from direct sun, especially midday
- Good air circulation
