Up for sale is an exceptional, highly architectural Pachypodium densiflorum hybrid that is perfect for any serious caudiciform collector.

This specimen is approximately 5 to 6 years old and was grown 100% from seed right here in Australia. It has been strictly "hard-grown" in a premium, fully inorganic gritty mix. This slow, intentional style of cultivation creates a beautifully compressed, squat, fat caudex with incredible spine density and rich silver-grey texturing—completely free of the weak, leggy growth seen in high-peat commercial setups.

Standout Features:

  • Excellent Branching Habits: It is putting out fantastic new growth architecture, featuring three distinct growth points / shoots branching at the crown, alongside new branch shoots actively forming directly at the base of the caudex.

  • 100% Seed Grown: Provides the perfectly balanced, symmetrical base development highly sought after by collectors.

  • Fully Established & Acclimated: 5–6 years of stable local growth with a robust, healthy root system. Zero transition or rot risk compared to unrooted flipped imports.

  • Substrate: Grown in a premium, free-draining inorganic mineral gritty mix.

  •

Digital caliper measurements are shown in the photos to give an exact scale of the base diameter and branch spread. It is in peak health, boasting a beautiful canopy of crisp green leaves with striking central veins. Ready for a prime position on a sunny staging bench.

Care Instructions

Follow these detailed care instructions to keep your Elkhorn Fern thriving:

Mounting

Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees. For best results:

  • Mount on wood, cork, or similar materials
  • Use sphagnum moss around the roots
  • Secure with fishing line or plant-safe wire until established
Watering

Proper watering is crucial:

  • Soak the root ball and shield fronds thoroughly when the moss feels dry
  • Allow excess water to drain completely
  • Reduce watering in winter
  • Mist shield fronds occasionally
Light & Positioning

Place your fern where it receives:

  • Bright, indirect light
  • Protection from direct sun, especially midday
  • Good air circulation
