Peyote Cactus
Lophophora williamsii var. Cardona, commonly known as the Cardona peyote, is a fascinating and small cactus native to the arid regions of Mexico, particularly in the state of San Luis Potosí. This variety features a distinctive, rounded shape with a smooth, pale green to bluish-grey skin, often adorned with small tubercles. Typically, it reaches a height of about 5 to 12 centimeters and can grow up to 8 centimeters in diameter.
In Australia, growing Lophophora williamsii var. Cardona requires attention to specific conditions. Here are some tips for successful cultivation:
- Climate: This cactus thrives in warm, dry conditions. Ensure it is placed in a location that receives plenty of sunlight, ideally 6 to 8 hours daily.
- Soil: Use a well-draining cactus mix or create your own by combining potting soil with sand or perlite to enhance drainage.
- Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 2 to 3 weeks, but reduce frequency in the winter.
- Temperature: Ideal temperatures range from 20°C to 30°C during the day, while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 10°C.
- Fertilization: Use a diluted cactus fertilizer during the growing season to promote healthy growth.
Seed sown, approximately 3 years old, you will receive the actual plant in the picture. Growing in 70mm pot, will be sent bare rooted.
With proper care, Lophophora williamsii var. Cardona can be a unique and rewarding addition to your succulent collection.
