Offering an exceptional, mature specimen of Larryleachia marlothii (formerly Trichocaulon). This is a collector-grade plant featuring three large, beautifully geometric, snake-skin textured main heads alongside a brand-new cluster forming right at the center.

As measured by calipers, this specimen spans roughly 12 cm across, making it an incredibly substantial size for this slow-growing genus. The plant is in robust health, boasting excellent light green color with no blemishes or scarring.

  •

  • Botanical Name: Larryleachia marlothii

  • Family: Apocynaceae (Stapeliad)

  • Current Size: ~12cm wide cluster (see photo with calipers)

  • Condition: Established, healthy, pest-free.

☀️ Care Requirements

  • Light: Bright, indirect light or filtered sun.

  • Water: Extremely low. Water minimally during active summer growth and keep completely bone-dry in winter to prevent root rot.

  • Soil: Must be kept in a purely mineral grit mix (pumice, lava rock, coarse river sand) with excellent drainage.

Care Instructions

Follow these detailed care instructions to keep your Elkhorn Fern thriving:

Mounting

Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees. For best results:

  • Mount on wood, cork, or similar materials
  • Use sphagnum moss around the roots
  • Secure with fishing line or plant-safe wire until established
Watering

Proper watering is crucial:

  • Soak the root ball and shield fronds thoroughly when the moss feels dry
  • Allow excess water to drain completely
  • Reduce watering in winter
  • Mist shield fronds occasionally
Light & Positioning

Place your fern where it receives:

  • Bright, indirect light
  • Protection from direct sun, especially midday
  • Good air circulation
