Description

Ficus elastica 'Burgundy', commonly known as Burgundy Rubber Plant, is a striking evergreen houseplant prized for its bold, burgundy-colored leaves and upright growth habit. Native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, this resilient plant adds a touch of sophistication to indoor spaces with its rich foliage.

**Size:** Burgundy Rubber Plant typically grows to a height of 1 to 2 meters and spreads about 0.5 to 1 meter wide, forming a compact, bushy structure.

**Growing Tips:**
1. **Light:** Place Burgundy Rubber Plant in a location that receives bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate some shade, it thrives in well-lit areas away from direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

2. **Temperature:** Maintain a consistent temperature range between 18 to 24°C (65 to 75°F) for optimal growth. Protect the plant from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

3. **Watering:** Water Burgundy Rubber Plant thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, allowing excess water to drain away. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. During winter, reduce watering frequency to prevent waterlogged soil.

4. **Soil:** Plant Burgundy Rubber Plant in a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter, such as peat moss or perlite. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

5. **Humidity:** Maintain moderate to high humidity levels around Burgundy Rubber Plant, especially during dry winter months. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly or placing a humidifier nearby.

6. **Fertilization:** Feed Burgundy Rubber Plant with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) to promote healthy growth. Reduce fertilisation frequency in winter.

7. **Pruning:** Prune Burgundy Rubber Plant occasionally to remove dead or yellowing leaves and maintain its desired shape. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to make clean cuts.

8. **Propagation:** Burgundy Rubber Plant can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least two nodes and remove the lower leaves. Plant the cutting in moist potting mix and place it in a warm, humid environment until roots develop.
