I only have 2 plants available for sale. You will receive one of the two in the picture. The plants are grown from seed, approximately 1 year old. Currently growing in a 6.5cm pot. Here are the key growing conditions for Anacampseros telephiastrum variegata (also known as ‘Sunrise’). Use these as a guideline for growing it successfully:
Light
It thrives in bright light to full sun. For the variegation and pink/red tones to show, good exposure is needed
It tolerates partial shade, but if light is too weak, the colours fade and the plant may stretch (etiolate)
Caution: intense afternoon sun, especially in very hot climates, may cause sunburn.
Soil & Drainage
Needs a very well-draining soil mix—succulent or cactus mix with extra grit, coarse sand, pumice, perlite
Ideally the soil is somewhat rocky or gritty (mimicking scree/rocky habitat)
Watering
Use a “soak and dry” approach: water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry, then let it dry out before watering again
During the growing season (spring/summer) water moderately but ensure soil never stays wet
In dormant or cooler periods, reduce watering drastically (very low water need). Overwatering can quickly lead to rot
Temperature & Hardiness
Native to South Africa, so it prefers warm conditions
It is not frost-tolerant
Ideal indoor/outdoor temperatures might be in the region of ~18-27 °C. Protect from temperatures below ~5 °C
Fertiliser & Maintenance
Fertilising is optional but you can feed lightly during active growth (spring/summer) with a diluted succulent/cactus fertiliser
Keep the area well-ventilated to avoid excess humidity/rot
Size & Growth Habit
Slow-growing succulent forming low rosettes; eventually may spread into mats or trail over pot edges
Height usually up to ~15 cm and similar width under good conditions
Common Problems & Tips
Overwatering / poor drainage → rot, mushy stems/leaves
Low light → weak colours, elongated growth. Reddit growers say
High humidity or poor ventilation → fungal issues or pests (e.g., mealybugs)

Care Instructions
Follow these detailed care instructions to keep your Elkhorn Fern thriving:
Mounting
Elkhorn ferns are epiphytic, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees. For best results:
- Mount on wood, cork, or similar materials
- Use sphagnum moss around the roots
- Secure with fishing line or plant-safe wire until established
Watering
Proper watering is crucial:
- Soak the root ball and shield fronds thoroughly when the moss feels dry
- Allow excess water to drain completely
- Reduce watering in winter
- Mist shield fronds occasionally
Light & Positioning
Place your fern where it receives:
- Bright, indirect light
- Protection from direct sun, especially midday
- Good air circulation
